The Solar Energy Industries Association (SEIA) and Wood Mackenzie’s report on solar power installations stated that the U.S. installed a record 32 GW of new solar generation capacity in 2023, including 22.5 GW of utility-scale capacity, a 37% increase from 2021. This is a significant increase from the previous record set in 2021. The report also stated that total installed solar power generation capacity now stands at 177 GW. However, equipment manufacturers are still dealing with some of the legislation’s details. Sean Burke, CEO and co-founder of Enteligent, shared his thoughts on the potential impact of the Inflation Reduction Act (IRA) on the solar power sector. He highlighted that current incentives do not treat all inverter technologies equally and that microinverters are less energy efficient compared to the DC [direct current]coupled PV hybrid inverter systems. Burke also highlighted confusion over who qualifies for incentives and who can benefit from the tax incentive transference process.
