PacifiCorp and rPlus Expand Utah BESS Project to 1,600MWh with $1 Billion Investment, Construction Starts Q2 2024.

PacifiCorp and rPlus have quadrupled the size of the Utah BESS project from its planned size to 1,600MWh by quadrupling the size to include a 1,800MWh battery energy storage system (BESS) and 400MW of solar PV. The project will start construction in Q2 2024 and will feature a total of 400MW/1,600 MWh, a 4-hour duration system. The current largest BESS unit is at the Edwards Sanborn solar-plus-storage facility in California. The company, rPlus Hydro, is also working on developing pumped hydro energy storage projects in Wyoming and Utah. The Utah project, which will require US$1 billion of capital investment, will be brought to the market for tax and debt financing later this year.
