Report urges U.S. government to combat China’s solar dominance with stricter trade laws and incentives for domestic production.

A report by consulting firm Guidehouse and commissioned by the Solar Energy Manufacturers for America Coalition (SEMA) suggests the federal government should help U.S. solar manufacturers overcome China’s dominance in the industry. The report calls for aggressive enforcement of trade laws and for stricter domestic content requirements for clean energy tax credits and federal procurement policies that incentivize American-sourced solar panels. It also suggests new financial penalties for violators of trade law violators. Solar manufacturers have long warned that cheap Chinese imports of solar panels could threaten their manufacturing projects.
