U.S. Clean Energy Jobs Surge 3.9% in 2022, Power Generation Reaches Decade High Amid Recovery Efforts.

In 2022, both energy and clean energy jobs in the United States and Washington, D.C. grew significantly, according to the Department of Energy’s annual U.S. Energy and Employment Jobs Report. Clean energy jobs grew by 3.9% last year, and the Quarterly Census of Employment and Wages found that employment in power generation and supply has recovered after a several-year downward trend, reaching its highest levels in a decade in Q1 2023. The White House attributes these growth to a larger boom across American clean energy supply chains. The report also highlighted investments in 94 GW of new clean power generation projects, representing an estimated $133 billion in investment since the beginning of the administration. Some states saw particularly large gains, with West Virginia, Oklahoma, and New Mexico leading the clean energy job growth. The energy sector has recovered 71% of the number of jobs lost in 2020 during the COVID-19 pandemic.
