Top Senate Appropriations subcommittee chairs have stated that anti-climate riders, which aim to undermine components of the Biden administration’s climate agenda, are likely to be included in the final fiscal 2024 spending package. The six-bill minibus, which has yet to be finalised, is expected to include provisions that could hinder the administration’s environmental goals. Lawmakers are hoping to release the text for most of the bills this weekend to ensure passage of the bipartisan package before the March 22 funding deadline. Democrats have been insisting on rejecting any provisions aimed at federal climate programs throughout the monthslong process, which appears to be succeeding.
