Wygen III is a coal-fired steam turbine power plant located in Gillette, Wyoming, within the Western Electricity Coordinating Council (WECC) region. With an operating capacity of 103 MW, it plays a crucial role in the WAPA Colorado-Missouri Region’s power control area. The plant is operated by Rocky Mountain Power and is regulated under state and federal guidelines. Black Hills Power is the majority owner, under the umbrella of Black Hills Corporation. The primary power purchaser for Wygen III is the Municipal Energy Agency of Nebraska, ensuring a steady demand for the electricity generated at this facility.
