Wilkes is a steam turbine power plant located in Avinger, Texas, within the Midwest Reliability Organization’s NERC region. With an operating capacity of 901 MW, it plays a significant role in the Southwest Power Pool’s power control area. The plant is operated and majority-owned by Southwestern Electric Power Company, a subsidiary of American Electric Power Company. It utilizes gas as its primary fuel source and is regulated under state guidelines. The primary gas supply for the plant is sourced from Enable Gas Transmission.
