Smith Island is a strategically located power generation facility situated in Ewell, Maryland, within the ReliabilityFirst Corporation NERC region. The plant operates with an internal combustion technology and has an operating capacity of 1.4 megawatts. It is integrated into the PJM Interconnection power control area, facilitating efficient energy distribution. The facility is operated by A&N Electric Cooperative, which also holds majority ownership, ensuring a cohesive management structure. As an unregulated entity, Smith Island benefits from operational flexibility, utilizing oil as its primary fuel source to meet energy demands.
