Shasta is a hydraulic turbine power generation facility located in Redding, California, within the Western Electricity Coordinating Council (WECC) region. The plant boasts an operating capacity of 714 megawatts and is managed under the Balancing Authority of Northern California, specifically by the Sacramento Municipal Utility District (SMUD). The facility is operated by the U.S. Bureau of Reclamation, which also holds majority ownership and is the owner holding company. As an unregulated entity, Shasta utilizes water as its primary fuel source, contributing to the region’s renewable energy portfolio.
