The Independence Steam Electric Station, located in Newark, Arkansas, operates under the SERC Reliability Corporation within the Midcontinent Independent System Operator power control area. This facility utilizes steam turbine technology and has an operating capacity of 1,678 megawatts. The plant is regulated and primarily owned by the Arkansas Electric Cooperative Corporation, which also serves as the holding company. The primary fuel source for the station is coal. Additional ownership includes Entergy Mississippi, Entergy Arkansas, the City of Jonesboro (AR), Entergy Power, East Texas Electric Cooperative, Conway Corporation, the City of West Memphis Arkansas, and the City of Osceola Arkansas.
