H Allen Franklin Combined Cycle is a state-of-the-art power generation facility located in Smiths Station, Alabama, within the SERC Reliability Corporation region. This unregulated plant, operated by Southern Power Company, boasts an impressive operating capacity of 1976.8 MW, utilizing advanced combined cycle technology to efficiently convert natural gas into electricity. The facility is primarily fueled by gas sourced from the Southern Natural Gas Company and serves as a key power supplier to the Morgan Stanley Capital Group. As a majority-owned asset of Southern Power Company, which is part of The Southern Company, the H Allen Franklin plant plays a vital role in the Southern Company’s energy portfolio and contributes significantly to the regional power grid.
