Fort Randall is a hydraulic turbine power generation facility located in Pickstown, South Dakota, within the Midwest Reliability Organization (MRO) NERC region. The plant boasts an operating capacity of 360 megawatts and is integrated into the Southwest Power Pool power control area. It is operated by the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers (USCE) – Missouri River District, which also serves as the majority owner and holding company. As an unregulated facility, Fort Randall utilizes water as its primary fuel source, contributing to the region’s energy supply while adhering to operational standards set forth by regulatory bodies.
