Cougar Solar is a solar power facility located in Sanford, North Carolina, operating under the jurisdiction of the SERC Reliability Corporation. With an operating capacity of 1.9 megawatts, the plant harnesses solar energy to contribute to the regional power grid. The facility is managed by Cougar Solar and operates within the power control area of Duke Energy Progress. As an unregulated entity, Cougar Solar is majority-owned by the National Renewable Energy Corporation, which also serves as its holding company. The plant’s primary fuel source is sunlight, aligning with the growing emphasis on renewable energy solutions in the energy sector.
