Maryland’s Office of People’s Counsel has challenged an $800 million proposal by Talen Energy to keep two coal-burning power plants outside of Baltimore, which are scheduled to close in 2025. The Office has asked the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission (FERC) to reject the offer to continue operating the Brandon Shores and Wagner power stations. The independent office argues that Talen’s proposed charges are an unfair burden on state utility ratepayers.
