The Solar for All competition, a competition run by the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency, aims to invest $7 billion in grants to states, local governments, nonprofits, and tribal governments to increase access to affordable, resilient, and clean solar energy for millions of low-income households. The funds will be distributed through rooftop solar installations or access to existing community solar projects. Deputy Judge-Executive Vince Doty of Lawrence County, Kentucky, led the local governments to submit a unified application for federal funding. The application includes $150 million for residential solar installations and community centers in areas prone to natural disasters. The other application includes a zero-cost forgivable loan program for low-cost homes or energy efficiency upgrades. Both applications aim to integrate solar energy into thousands of homes.
