Ionomr Innovations Inc., a developer and manufacturer of breakthrough polymer and membrane technologies for next-generation hydrogen applications, has released a Catalyst Coated Membrane (CCM) based on its Aemion® Anion Exchange Membranes (AEMs) for reference development of low-cost green hydrogen systems. The CCMs contain no iridium and are void of perfluorinated (PFSA) substances that are currently toxic substances. This move marks a new era in green hydrogen production with CCMs that do not require rare and expensive noble metal components like iridium ($185k/kg). The capital expense (CAPEX) of the membrane electrode assembly (MEA), and therefore the stack and system, are reduced significantly through the CCM. This reduction in CAPEX and high efficiency enable significant reductions in operating expense (OPEX).
