DOE Commits $1.52 Billion to Recommission Palisades Power Plant, Creating Jobs in Michigan by 2025.

The U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) has committed a conditional commitment of up to $1.52 billion to Holtec Palisades LLC to finance the restoration and resumption of service of the Palisade Power Plant in Covert Township, Michigan. The project aims to bring the single-reactor unit back into commercial operation by 2025, after it was retired by previous owner Entergy in 2022. If finalized, this would be the first recommissioning of a shutdown nuclear power plant in the U., supporting up to 600 jobs in Michigan, many of which are expected to be filled by workers who have been at the plant for over 20 years. The loan guarantee would support more than 1,000 jobs during the facility’s refueling and maintenance periods.
