House Speaker Mike Johnson Cancels Vote on Controversial Funding Bill Amid Lack of Republican Support

House Speaker Mike Johnson of Louisiana has cancelled a vote on a conservative-backed government funding bill that lacks the Republican support needed for passage. The bill, which includes a controversial immigration bill and a continuing resolution, would extend government funding for six months beyond the end of the fiscal year. Democrats have balked at the spending package due to its inclusion of an immigration bill, and the length of the stopgap. They want a three-month extension without partisan add-ons.
