House Passes Bills to Block DOE Appliance Efficiency Rules, Gaining Support from Seven Democrats Despite White House Opposition.

The House of Representatives approved two bills against Department of Energy (DOE) appliance efficiency rules. The “Refrigerator Freedom Act” and “Stop Unaffordable Dishwasher Standards Act” were approved by Iowa Republican Rep. Mariannette Miller-Meeks and New York Republican Rep Nick Langworthy respectively. The bills would prevent DOE from implementing efficiency rules on the appliances unless mandates are cost effective and result in significant conservation. Despite the White House’s opposition, seven Democrats supported the legislation.
