Honeywell and ENEOS Launch World’s First Commercial-Scale Liquid Organic Hydrogen Carrier Project for Clean Hydrogen Transport.

Honeywell and ENEOS are collaborating to develop the world’s first commercial-scale Liquid Organic Hydrogen Carrier (LOHC) project. The LOHC solution, pioneered by Honeywell, offers a cost-effective method for the long-distance transport of clean hydrogen, addressing a need for industries transitioning to lower-carbon economies. The project uses existing refining assets and infrastructure to create a more accessible and viable hydrogen distribution on a global scale. Central to the solution is the Honeywell Toluene Hydrogenation process, which converts hydrogen gas into methylcyclohexane (MCH), a liquid carrier compatible with existing infrastructure. MCH is transported to Japan using Honeywell MCH Dehydrogenation, recovering the hydrogen using the honeywell MHC process.
