FERC Official Promises Cybersecurity Updates for Dam Operators Amid Senate Pressure, Timeline Uncertain but Possible in Nine Months.

A senior Federal Energy Regulatory Commission (FERC) official, Terry Turpin, has promised to speed updates to the agency’s cybersecurity requirements for commercial dam operators in response to pressure from Senate lawmakers to overhaul the nearly decade-old standards. Turpin stated that the agency could update the guidelines at the same time as pursuing physical and cybersecurity audits of nonfederal hydropower dams. However, he did not specify a specific date for the update, stating it could be completed in nine months.
