Federal grants for tribal climate resilience reach record $120 million, but long-term needs remain unmet.

A new round of federal grants to boost tribal climate resilience has set a record, reaching a total of $120 million. The Department of Interior is distributing grants to 102 tribes and nine tribal organizations, the most ever awarded under the Bureau of Indian Affairs’ annual climate awards program. The grants cover various areas, including drought mitigation and planning, training workshops and mapping, and community relocation. However, they fall far short of what officials believe will be needed in the long-term.
