Environmental Groups Sue to Stop Illegal Cattle Grazing in New Mexico National Forest, Protect Endangered Species.

A coalition of environmental groups is suing the Forest Service and Fish and Wildlife Service in an effort to prevent cattle from illegally grazing on a New Mexico national forest, damaging habitat for federally protected species. The issue has been an issue for several years and has led to an exchange between New Mexico Sen. Martin Heinrich (D) and Forest Service Chief Randy Moore. The lawsuit was filed in the U.S. District Court for the District of New Mexico. The 89,000-acre Valles Caldera National Preserve is managed by the National Park Service, which does not allow livestock grazing within the preserve.
