A group of Canadian youth has revised their lawsuit against the federal government, alleging that it is violating their rights to a safe climate. The revised filing comes six months after the Federal Court of Appeal ruled that courts should be allowed to determine if the country is failing to provide its residents with a healthy environment. The amended complaint argues that the government’s action violates basic human rights under the Canadian Charter of Rights and Freedoms. This decision reverses a 2020 decision by Federal Court Judge Michael Manson that found the case not have a “prospect of success”.
