Environmental groups are suing to block the 32-mile Cumberland natural gas pipeline in Tennessee, which they argue will lock in planet-warming emissions for decades. The Sierra Club, the Sierra Club and Appalachian Voices are asking a federal judge to toss out the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission’s approval to build the pipeline. The project would supply gas to the Tennessee Valley Authority for a proposed power plant replacement. The Southern Environmental Law Center is representing the environmental groups in the case.
