DOJ Declares Trump-Era Antitrust Probe into Automakers’ Emissions Deal with California Not Politically Motivated

The Department of Justice (DOJ) has stated that a Trump-era antitrust investigation into automakers’ voluntary emissions agreement with California was not politically motivated. The probe was launched in September 2019, a day after former President Donald Trump criticized the deal between California and automakers. DOJ Inspector General Michael Horowitz found no evidence of improper political influence. The review included interviews, thousands of documents and communication records from DOJ staff at the time.
