BOEM Approves Environmental Impact Statement for 2.8 GW Atlantic Shores Offshore Wind Project off New Jersey Coast.

The US Interior Department’s Bureau of Ocean Energy Management (BOEM) has approved the final Environmental Impact Statement (EIS) for the Atlantic Shores Offshore Wind Project 1 and 2 offshore New Jersey, which together could generate about 2.8 GW. The developer, Atlantic Shoring OffshoreWind LLC, a joint venture between Shell New Energies US LLC and EDF Renewables North America, submitted a combined Construction and Operations Plan for two wind energy facilities, including up to 200 total wind turbines and up to 10 offshore substations. The lease area is 102,124 acres (41,343 ha) in size and is located 8.7 miles (14 km) off the coast of New Jersey. New Jersey aims to achieve 100% clean energy by 2035 and 11 GW of offshore wind by 2040.
