The US Bureau of Ocean Energy Management (BOEM) has approved the Construction and Operations Plan (COP) for the up-to-2,600-MW New England Wind 1 and 2 project offshore Massachusetts. The approval was the last step in the permitting process before offshore construction could begin. The project, proposed by Avangrid Inc’s (NYSE:AGR) renewable energy unit Park City LLC, includes two wind farms, formerly called Park City Wind and Commonwealth Wind, to be located about 20 nautical miles south of Martha’s Vineyard, Massachusetts, and 24 nautical mile southwest of Nantucket, Massachusetts. Once in operation, the two parks could generate green electricity for over 900,000 homes annually.
