Bipartisan House Group Aims to Counter China’s Control of Critical Minerals with New Legislation and Support.

A group of bipartisan House members are working on legislation to counter China’s dominance over critical minerals. The members are hearing from companies seeking funding and federal support to expand domestic mining, processing and recycling of materials like graphite and nickel. The legislation could shape legislation the group is working to write to address the dependence on countries like China for these materials. Republican Rep. Rob Wittman of Virginia leads the Critical Minerals Policy Working Group, which aims to produce “substantive legislation” before the end of the year.
