Ballard Power Systems Secures $40 Million DOE Grants for New Fuel Cell Manufacturing Facility in Texas.

Ballard Power Systems has been awarded two grants by the U.S. Department of Energy (DOE), totaling $40 million, to establish Ballard Rockwall Giga 1, a manufacturing facility in Rockwall, Texas. The facility is expected to produce up to 20,000 fuel cell stacks and engines annually. The grants were part of the Clean Hydrogen Electrolysis, Manufacturing, and Recycling Program, which aims to promote environmental sustainability across the nation. The funds will be used to establish the facility, which aligns with Ballard’s ‘local for local’ concept. Additional funding includes $30 million for advanced proton exchange membrane (PEM) MEAs and $10 million for a next-generation flexible graphite bipolar plate manufacturing line.
