Air Products’ VP Eric Guter Advocates for Key Principles in Clean Hydrogen Production at Treasury Hearing

Eric Guter, Air Products’ Vice President, Hydrogen, discusses the three pillars of green hydrogen production, which include hourly-matching, incrementality, and deliverability. The Inflation Reduction Act (IRA) is climate and clean energy-driven legislation, with Guter highlighting the importance of these pillars during a public hearing hosted by the U.S. Department of the Treasury and Internal Revenue Service (IRS) regarding proposed federal rules for claiming the IRA’s Clean Hydrogen Production Credit (45V). Guter also supports hourly matching of electricity with hydrogen production starting in 2028 and ensuring grid emissions won’t increase from new hydrogen production. He also supports the requirement for deliverability based on the regions identified in the proposed regulations. Guter believes that if the EPA does not enforce these principles, it will hinder decarbonization and unfairly disadvantage compliant projects.
