Volvo Group Acquires Proterra to Enhance EV Charging Infrastructure with New Battery Solutions and Partnerships.

Volvo Group is set to buy US-based Proterra, a battery pack manufacturer, and its subsidiary Volvo Penta, which will provide its BESS sub-system to companies providing EV charging infrastructure-integrated BESS solutions. The move coincides with Volvo PentA’s announcement that it is partnering with TecnoGen, part of diesel powered generators manufacturer Bruno Generators Group, to support charging infrastructure for electric heavy vehicles. The sub-System uses the battery technology Penta has developed in-house for its electrification solutions. Volvo Group’s power solutions subsidiary, Volvo Energy, has also announced plans to jointly develop a BESS using batteries from Volvo’s vehicle line with UK firm Connected Energy. However, it is unclear whether this integration of ProterRA will impact Volvo Pentas’ BESS activity.
