US Solar Sector Poised to Double Residential Installations to 10 Million by 2030, Driven by Rapid Growth.

The US solar sector accounts for 97% of all solar installations in the US, with 36GW of residential systems installed as of 2023. By 2030, the US will have 10 million residential solar systems, more than double the number of installations in this sector. California, which led the country with two million installations in 2012, now has over 25,000 systems. Other states like Illinois have seen rapid growth, with over 87,000 solar systems now installed. Solar installations in Florida have increased from 22,000 installations in 2017 to 235,000 in 2025. Looking ahead, SEIA expects solar installations to double to 10 million by 2030 and triple to 15 million by 2034.
