The US solar sector added 18,401 jobs in 2023, leading the energy industry. The solar and wind sectors employ more people than any other fossil fuel industry, with a 5.3% growth in the number of solar jobs closely followed by a 4.6% wind sector. Solar added far more in terms of sheer number of jobs than the wind sector, suggesting a shift from the US wind industry to the solar sector. The energy industry also saw a strong growth in employees, with the overall year-on-year growth in electric power generation jobs of 4%, close to double the overall US job growth rate. The report’s conclusions also reflect growing interest in US solar deployment. The Department of Energy (DOE) also highlighted potential for further job growth within the US solar industry.
