US Solar Power Surpasses Hydroelectric Generation, Reaching 6.1% of Electricity in April, EIA Reports.

Solar power generation in the US exceeded hydroelectric power in April, accounting for 6.1% of the country’s electricity generation, according to the US Energy Institute (EIA). This growth is seen as significant compared to other forms of renewable power generation. Solar output increased from 143,797GWh to 164,502GWh between 2022 and 2023, while the US’ total power generation fell from 4,230,672 GWh to 4,178,171GWh. EIA also noted a 16.9% increase in power generated by small-scale PV projects from 2023 to 2024, reaching 7,909GWh, indicating a significant increase in solar power generation for the US. The encouraging generation figures suggest that the US is an attractive space for solar deployments, following a report from Ernst & Young (EY) which identified the country as the most attractive market for renewable investment and deployment opportunities.
