The potential for domestic solar manufacturing growth in the US is significant, with companies like NSG Group and Silfab Solar announcing plans to source glass from U.S.-based PV panel recycler Solarcycle, which is planning a $344 million solar glass fab in Georgia, supplied by recycled panel materials. Industry analyst Andries Wantenaar noted a 66% increase in China’s solar manufacturing industry in 2023, with rapid growth outside of China, where output doubled from 65 GW in 2022 to around 130 GW in 2025. He estimated that China holds “around 90%” of the solar glass market, higher than its 80% PV module share. The trend towards glass-glass is also being investigated by the US Department of Energy’s National Renewable Energy Laboratory (NREL) regarding module durability.
