The US solar manufacturers, including First Solar, Meyer Berger and Silfab Solar, have criticised the US government for overreliance on Chinese-made PV module, cell and wafer imports, claiming they threaten to destroy US-based solar manufacturing. The SEMA Coalition argues that the US is overreliant on Chinese products, particularly those from Chinese-owned companies, as they supply just over half of all PV modules shipped into the US in 2023. The coalition argues that attempts to relocate the manufacturing sector to the US have been flawed due to insufficient production capacity. It also highlights the potential positive impacts of supportive legislation for the US solar sector and calls for stronger enforcement of anti-dumping and countervailing duty (AD/CVD) which has been challenged in court by US manufacturer Auxin Solar.
