US Raises Tariffs on Chinese Batteries and Solar Cells to Protect Domestic Industries Amid Trade Tensions.

The US has increased its tariffs on batteries from China to 25% in response to China’s unfair trade practices. The tariff rate for battery parts will also increase from 7.5% to 25%. Other measures include increasing solar cell tariffs from 25% to 50%, and increasing tariffs on other industry products like cranes and medical equipment. The move is part of a series of measures aimed at protecting American workers and businesses from China’s low-priced exports. China dominates the global lithium-ion battery market, accounting for 80-90% of manufacturing. The tariffs were implemented in conjunction with Biden’s Inflation Reduction Act, which provided tax credit subsidies and funding pots for upstream and downstream clean energy industries.
