US lawmakers have called for immediate blocking of shipments of products from major battery manufacturers CATL and Gotion, alleging that they have links to Chinese organisations involved in the enslavement of Uyghur Muslims in Xinjiang. The letters were signed by Senator Marco Rubio and House of Representatives members John Moolenaar, Mark Green, Carlos Gimenez and Darin LaHood. The committee called for the department to blacklist CATL (CATL) and Gotions and block shipments of their products into the US. In response, CATL denied the allegations, stating that its business relations with suppliers had ceased long ago and that it has never procured any products from them. The allegations come amid increasing protectionist measures by the US towards China, particularly in the clean energy technology sector.
