US Government Announces $7 Billion Grant for Residential Solar Initiatives to Celebrate Earth Day 2024.

The US government has announced a $7-bn grant to support residential solar initiatives across the country. The funds will be distributed through the Environmental Protection Agency’s Solar for All grant competition, a competition included in the US climate change law, the Inflation Reduction Act. The announcement was made to celebrate Earth Day 2024. Over 60 recipients have been selected, including states, territories, Tribal governments, municipalities, and non-profits. The EPA has selected 49 state-level awards totalling around USD 5.5 billion, six awards of over USD 500 million to serve Tribes, and five multistate awards totalled about USD 1 billion. The measure is projected to yield annual savings of USD 350 million on electric bills and eliminate 30 million metric tonnes of carbon dioxide equivalent emissions.
