US Approves 2.07GW Empire Wind Project to Power 700,000 Homes and Boost Offshore Wind Capacity Goals.

The US Department of the Interior (DoI) has approved the 2.07GW Empire Wind offshore project, being developed by Equinor and BP on the East Coast of the US. The project, which will generate clean energy through its 147 turbines to power over 700,000 households annually, comprises two offshore wind facilities, Empire Wind I and Empire Wind II. The DoI estimates that Empire Wind will contribute towards the US government’s goal of installing 30GW of offshore wind energy capacity by the end of the decade. The offshore wind farms will support over 830 jobs each year during the construction stage and approximately 300 jobs annually during their operations.
