University of Michigan Solar Car Team Wins 2024 Electrek American Solar Challenge, Prepares for World Solar Challenge 2025.

The University of Michigan student-run solar car team won the Electrek American Solar Challenge 2024, covering 2095.5 miles (3372 km) over eight days in the competition. The win came after a car roll on the first day of the qualifier round damaged the engine, preventing the team from missing out. The competition, which took place in Nashville, Tennessee, saw over 30 student-led teams from the U.S. and Canada compete in a total of 1562.2 miles, with seven optional loops for additional points. The winning team’s car, named Astrum, was driven by Japan’s Mitsuba and powered by a 4m2 solar array. The team will compete in the next Bridgestone World Solar Challenge in Australia in 2025.
