Utah Associated Municipal Power Systems (UAMPS) and NuScale Power Corp. (NuScale) have agreed to terminate the Carbon Free Power Project (CFPP), a small modular reactor (SMR) project near Idaho National Laboratory (INL) property. The project was a major project for UAMPS, which was initially planned to be a 720-MWe power plant comprised of 12 NuScale SMR power modules. However, due to delays in member subscriptions, the project was deemed unlikely to continue its development. NuScale President and CEO John Hopkins praised the project’s progress, particularly in the context of the development of small modular nuclear reactors. The companies also plan to explore an expanded manufacturing partnership with Nucor Corporation.
