The U.S. Department of Energy’s Energy Information Administration’s (EIA) has released its Electric Power Monthly report for the first three quarters of 2023, showing modest growth in solar power generation. Up to September 2023 up to that date, solar power constituted 5.7% of the electricity generated in the US, an increase from the 4.9% recorded at the same time last year. This represents a 16% growth in total solar power production compared to 2022. The EIA also noted that the U.K. is on track to set a new record in 2023 with 33 GW of solar power capacity being deployed, which could significantly increase generation numbers later in the year. A 23% increase in solar capacity from 2022 could boost US solar output to around 6.8% of all electricity in 2024.
