U.S. Solar Manufacturing Surge: Experts Discuss Challenges and Opportunities Amid Inflation Reduction Act Incentives

The US is seeing an influx of solar module manufacturers, with the Inflation Reduction Act allowing for rapid rollout and long-term competitiveness. However, establishing a vertically integrated facility quickly is a significant task. Panelists included Alex Barrows, head of PV at Exawatt, Tristan Erion-Lorico, MinWah Leung, and Kim Primerano, vice president, energy and infrastructure development, Estuary Power. They discussed the realisticity of reducing dependence on Chinese imports and filling in anticipated gaps in the U.S. supply chain. The majority of announced manufacturing facilities will produce solar modules, with TOPCon expected to be the main module technology.
