The Edison Electric Institute (EEI) has revealed that America’s investor-owned electric companies are investing more than $1.1 trillion over the next five years to support innovation, connect data centers and create good-paying jobs across the country. The report also revealed that last year, a record $178.2 billion was invested to make the energy grid smarter, stronger, more dynamic and secure. This is the 13th consecutive year of record-setting investment. The industry’s capital expenditures are higher than any other sector in the U.S. economy, outpacing transportation, retail and other capital-intensive industries.
