Wood Mackenzie has updated its five-year outlook for the U.S. community solar market, predicting that it will essentially double in five years. The firm predicts that 7.3 GW of community solar will be installed through 2029, bringing the total to over 14 GW. The growth in existing state markets is slowing, with the May 2024 decision on California community solar resulting in a 14% reduction to Wood Mackenzie’s five year national outlook. The report also noted that new state markets such as Ohio, Pennsylvania, Michigan, and Wisconsin could result in a 17% increase from the base forecast, reaching 17.1 GW installed in 2029. It also noted a potential 20% decrease in existing markets under a bull case scenario. The top three community solar subscription managers cover 56% of subscribers and 71% of LMI subscribers.
