Former President Donald Trump has promised to refill the nation’s strategic oil stockpile if he returns to the White House next year. This pledge is part of a bid to raise the issue ahead of the November elections. During a Fox News interview, Trump accused the Biden administration of using the reserve to lower gasoline prices, which he claimed has negatively impacted energy security. Republican lawmakers have previously suggested that President Joe Biden’s release of over 200 million barrels from the reserve in 2022 was a political ploy ahead of midterms. The Strategic Petroleum Reserve now stands at around 375 million barrels, its lowest level since the 1980s, and could be purchased around 300 million barrels.
