Trina Solar to Invest $400 Million in Vietnam Factory Amid US Tariff Investigations on Chinese Solar Firms

Chinese solar panel maker Trina Solar is planning to invest $400 million in its third factory in Vietnam, with the potential of a $600 million investment in the future. This move follows US investigation into Chinese solar companies’ use of Thailand and other Southeast Asian countries for tariff avoidance. Vietnam is now the biggest supplier of solar panels to the US, accounting for one third of all US imports in the first quarter of this year. Chinese businesses are increasingly turning to Vietnam to avoid trade tensions between Beijing and Washington, and the total investment from Trina solar in Vietnam could reach up to $1 billion if the $ 600 million investment is made in the past.
