Trina Solar Expands Vietnam Factory Amid US Tariff Controversy, Aiming for 6.5GW Wafer Production Capacity.

Trina Solar is expanding its Vietnam wafer factory to produce 6.5GW of 210mm monocrystalline wafers, 4GW solar cells and 5GW modules. The site produces n-type tunnel oxide passivated contact (TOPCon) products, including its advanced cell technology Vertex series. This is the largest of Trina Solar’s operations outside of China and is doing high value advanced manufacturing such as turning wafer into solar cells. An August 2023 report suggested that the growing solar manufacturing sector could create US$100 billion in new revenue. Both Trina and Canadian Solar were found guilty of circumventing US antidumping and countervailing duty (AD/CVD) import tariffs last year. A new AD/Cvd petition has been launched to extend the tariffs and restrict solar products in Southeast Asia from entering the US without paying duties.
